T is for Tubes
Today (March 26) was surgery day for poor little Carter. He had to get tubes put in since he has had six ear infections in his short little life - way too many for a seven month old. We had to be at the hospital by 6:45am so it was an early morning for the three of us. Carter was such a trooper and really didn't fuss even though he hadn't had anything to eat since 8:30pm the night before. He smiled at all the nurses and doctors and was in a pretty good mood while we had to wait almost two hours for the surgery to start. I seriously have no idea why they made us get there so early to just wait. Carter finally fell asleep on Daddy just as the nurses came back to take him to surgery.
The procedure was over in less than ten minutes and we were able to go right back with him once he woke up from the anesthesia. Carter was pretty upset and was crying inconsolably - hadn't seen him like that since he was a tiny baby, but was a little better once he got a bottle. We had to wait around another half hour for monitoring and Carter definitely was not a happy camper - he just wanted to go to sleep and didn't want to be held. All in all the procedure was really simple and Carter was at home in his crib sleeping by 9:45am. He took a really long morning nap (I think the anesthesia was still making him groggy) but so far has been pretty much back to his old self already. Keeping our fingers crossed that the tubes will work and will help prevent future ear infections!
