H is for Hospital

Our poor little guy had to be admitted to the hospital last night. Our daycare called around 3:30 and said that Carter was running a fever of 101.5 degrees. TJ left right away to pick him up and I called the pedi, who were able to get him in at 6:00. After the examination, Dr. C could not find a quick cause for his fever so he called Sparrow to consult with the attending doctor. Both of them decided that due to his age and fever he needed to be admitted. Not the news we were expecting to hear....

So far Carter has been given IV fluids, had a chest x-ray, urine catheter and lots of blood work. They decided that he did not look like he had meningitis so they didn't see a need to do the spinal tap - thank goodness! Thank you to Papa for going back with Carter to get those tests done - neither Mommy or Daddy were strong enough to watch that happen.

The initial results are looking like he has a viral infection, not bacterial. He has slightly elevated white blood counts but everything else with the blood work looked good. The first "flu" test came back negative so that is good news too.

We have to wait for the rest of the tests before we will know anything else. Please send us good thoughts!
